Yesterday, EULEX personnel working for the Kosovo Department of Forensic Medicine (DFM) executed a Court Order in Cabrat cemetery in Gjakova/Djakovica and conducted an exhumation of 14 graves, with the purpose of correcting the wrongly associated remains that were found in Serbia in 2001.

The cases buried in Cabrat cemetery and other related cases buried in Kline/Klina and Malisheve/Malisevo, mainly victims of Gjakova/Djakovica and Kralan/Kraljane events, are linked to more than 50 other cases of individuals still listed as missing persons.

The remains were taken to DFM for further identification and DNA analysis. After the process has been finalized in its entirety, DFM will hand over all the correctly identified and re-associated remains to their families, including those that were identified some years ago but were not handed over to their families yet.

To date, EULEX DFM has conducted 467 field operations in Kosovo and in Serbia, of which 318 individuals were recovered and 427 were handed over to their families.
