Today, an International Prosecutor and State Prosecutor from the Basic Prosecution Office in Prishtinë/Priština, received verdict in the so-called "Spanish theft" case. A panel of three judges of the Prishtinë/Priština Basic Court convicted two persons in relation to theft of approximately 1.3 million euro worth of jewellery and other expensive items from a hotel room in Barcelona on 20 July 2009.
The accused A.J. and H.J. were found guilty of Aggravated theft and both sentenced to two and a half years' imprisonment.
The theft took place on 20 July 2009 at the Hotel Arts, Barcelona, where the defendants, plus two co-defendants (one already sentenced and another at large), broke into a room occupied by Mr Masrour Barzani, son of the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, and stole the precious items. The jewellery and other items were then brought to Kosovo.
This case was investigated by Kosovo Police, led by a mixed team involving one International and one State Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina.
