Silvio Bonfigli, from Italy, has been appointed as the new Head of the EULEX Justice Component. He joined the mission this week.
Silvio Bonfigli, (b.1963) became a Public Prosecutor in 1992 and has built us years of experience as an anti-corruption expert. Before joining EULEX he worked as a legal expert at Italy’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Service.
In 2009 he chaired the G-8 anti-corruption experts’ group under Italy’s G8 Presidency. He was also a member of the Italian delegation to the Council of Europe’s Group of States against Corruption-Council of Europe (GRECO), the United Nation Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the Working Group of Bribery at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
In autumn 2009 he also participated in a European Commission project to support the anti-corruption institutions of Kosovo.
From 2003-2007 Mr. Bonfigli worked as an anti-corruption legal expert for the OECD. He also worked for the European Commission (EC) as an expert in combating corruption fraud and terrorism and participated in EC missions to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria, FYROM and Slovakia.
From 2002-2003 he worked for the Office of the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina as an international member of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Councils of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
From 1999-2001 he was a full-time consultant of the Anti-Terrorism Parliamentary Commission in Italy.
The central aim of the EULEX Justice Component is to help, improve and strengthen Kosovo’s justice system to make it multi-ethnic, impartial and free from political interference. At the moment EULEX Justice Component has 397 people working there.
