Today, at the District Court in Pristina, a mixed panel of judges, composed of one Kosovo judge and two EULEX judges, issued the following verdict in the so-called A.K. case:
A.K. was found guilty of participating in a group obstructing official persons in performing their official duties on the occasion of the demonstrations of 10 February 2007. A.K. was sentenced to 9 months, but was released immediately in consideration of the time already spent in detention until now.
The prosecution withdrew the first and the third charges during the process, namely: participating in a crowd committing a criminal offence and calling for resistance.
The A.K. trial resumed/re-started on 15 February 2010 and was adjourned several times.
The Prosecution was represented by a local prosecutor from the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office (SPRK).
EULEX appreciates the good work of the Kosovo Police, the local prosecution and the local judiciary in fulfilling their respective roles and thus helping to strengthen the rule of law in Kosovo.
