On appeal, the Court of Appeal in Kosovo released the defendant U.R. today from Detention on Remand in the so-called "Velania case", and was re-arrested by Kosovo and EULEX Police this afternoon under the direction of the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office (SPRK).

U.R. was released from Detention on Remand following the decision issued today by the Court of Appeals against the Ruling of the pre-trial judge of the Basic Court of Pristina, dated 4.06.2014 which extended Detention on Remand against the defendant until 4.09.2014, and immediately re-arrested on the direction by SPRK.

U.R. is suspected of committing the following criminal offences: Organized crime in violation of Article 283 (2) of the Criminal Code of Kosovo (CCK), in conjunction with the criminal offences of Fraud, in violation of Article 335 (1) and (5) CCK, Trading in influence, in violation of Article 431 CCK, Smuggling of migrants, in violation of Article 170 (2) and (6) and Abuse of official position or authority, in violation of Article 422 CCK.
