Today, the EULEX Head of Mission, Bernd Borchardt, completed a two day visit to Tirana, where he met with the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama. Borchardt also met high officials of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the Ministry of Justice. Amongst the most important issues discussed were illegal immigration, trafficking of people, goods, and narcotics including marijuana. Head of EULEX stressed the importance of co-operation and exchange of information between Albanian and Kosovo police, customs and judiciary.
"Proactive approach and close contact is the key to combatting trafficking and illegal immigration," said Borchardt. "Organised crime is a regional phenomenon and needs to be tackled on a regional basis. I would also like to thank the Government of Albania for their full willingness to co-operate and their support".
During his visit, the EULEX Head of Mission also met the EU Delegation in Tirana.
