Yesterday, a EULEX Pre-Trial Judge ordered detention on remand for five individuals arrested as part of an operation conducted by a Joint Investigation Team of EULEX and Kosovo Police.
Measures were imposed on a further three individuals; they are required to report to a police station, not to otherwise leave their place of residence and their travel documents were confiscated.
These measures were ordered following a request from a EULEX prosecutor at Kosovo’s Special Prosecution Office (SPRK).
The suspects were arrested on grounded suspicion that they had participated in the smuggling of migrants and were involved in organised crime. Seven of the suspects were arrested in the morning
pursuant to an order of the EULEX Judge. An eighth person was later arrested.
The case is being investigated by a EULEX prosecutor from SPRK.
