During the last two weeks, EULEX forensic experts and their local counterparts from the Department of Forensic Medicine (DFM) handed over the remains of nine individuals who went missing in 1998/99 during the Kosovo conflict. The remains were officially handed over to the representatives of the Serbian Government Commission for Missing Persons. Members of the Kosovo Government Commission for Missing Persons and the Ministry of Justice were present as well.
The handovers took place at Merdar/Merdare, Prizren and Viti/Vitina on the 5th, 6th and 11th of July 2012.
Since EULEX experts joined DFM in December 2008, the remains of over 300 individuals have been returned to families.
