15 May 2009
As part of enhancing EULEX Customs activity at Gates 1 and 31, from midnight, Wednesday, 20 May, EULEX Customs will start copying the IDs of drivers of incoming commercial vehicles only, and will take copies of any commercial documents accompanying the loads. In addition, to reduce the amount of fraud and smuggling at the Gates, EULEX Customs Component will also stamp a copy of the commercial document. Copies of all data and documents taken by EULEX will be shared with its counterparts in Kosovo and Serbian Customs.
EULEX Customs Component has been present at the Gates since 9 December 2008, initially during daylight hours, and since mid-January on a 24/7 basis. From 1 February 2009 EULEX Customs began collecting data on commercial traffic entering Kosovo at the Gates. The present measures represent an enhancement of controls.
