As part of his visit to Kosovo, the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of the
Republic of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, visited today the European Union
Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), the largest European Union Common
Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) civilian mission.
At the Mission’s Support Compound in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje,
Taoiseach Varadkar was welcomed by the Head of Mission of EULEX,
Giovanni Pietro Barbano, where he inspected a guard of honour comprising
members of the EULEX Formed Police and Reserve Formed Police Units.
“It was an honour to welcome Taoiseach Varadkar to EULEX and to have the
opportunity to thank Ireland for its strong and longstanding support to
the Mission, also through the committed service of Irish staff members,
including in senior positions,” said Barbano.
During the visit, Varadkar discussed the current security situation in
Kosovo with Barbano and received a brief about the mandate and
activities of EULEX by the Deputy Head of Mission of EULEX, Cezary Luba.
Later, Taoiseach Varadkar was very pleased to meet and talk to members of the Irish contingent of EULEX.
