On 30 October 2019, the Missing Persons Resource Center organised an informative session for the families of missing persons.
During the event, the Deputy Director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IFM), Tarja Formisto, elaborated on how EULEX contributes to IFM’s work in the identification of missing persons. “Every case is different and I am always ready to answer your questions. I’m here to help you with all the information that I have at hand,” said Ms Formisto while addressing the families of the missing persons.
Meanwhile, the IFM intensified its work on locating and identifying missing persons. From January to 15 May 2019, EULEX experts supported the local counterparts in five site assessments and contributed to recovering two missing persons as a result of conducting three exhumations. In addition, forensic support was provided in Ferizaj/ Uroševac, where four bodies were exhumed. From June 2018 to October 2019, 15 identifications were made. Ten of these were of persons on the Official Missing Persons List. As of October, the official number of missing persons is 1644, as new cases being added to the list.
