Thanks to EULEX training, 22 Kosovo Correctional Service's officers become European Resuscitation Council-certified BSL instructors

On 17 and 18 October 2024, 22 Kosovo Correctional Service staff members received the European Resuscitation Council certification (ERC) of Basic Life Support (BLS) instructors following a two-day training jointly organised by the Correctional Unit and the Medical Unit of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX).

The certification training was delivered by EULEX Medical Unit’s ERC-certified instructors, and provided the participants with the vital knowledge and skills to render life-saving care in in case of cardiac arrest. The certification will also enable the newly certified instructors to independently organize BSL training activities for their colleagues, for a safer prison environment.

This was the second certification training organised by EULEX. The first one was organized in 2022 for 13 KCS officers. Moreover, in the same year, the Mission donated 149 first-aid kits , seven sets of training equipment - including training defibrillators and resuscitation dolls - and IT equipment for all 11 detention and correctional centers in Kosovo, to facilitated the work of the BLS-certified KCS instructors.

Since 2016, the EULEX Medical Unit, in collaboration with the EULEX Correctional Unit, has planned and conducted Basic Life Support training for more than 500 KCS staff.
