Yesterday, EULEX police experts made a presentation to Kosovo Police regarding effective tactical approaches in dealing with dynamic and escalating life threatening incidents.
Quick police action in such circumstances are essential in preventing the loss of life and the protection of citizens. EULEX’s presentation to KP focused on new and evolving tactics when dealing with AMOK situations. AMOK situations are extraordinary security incidents of sudden mass assault against people or objects a single or multiple individuals.
Innocent victims and by standers are those who are most often injured in AMOK situations. In such incidents effective and responsive immediate police action is vital in saving lives. This new concept requires police action to be swift with all operational officers having the capacity and capability to act without waiting for more specialised units.
Mr. Bojan Popovic and Mr. Srecko Jarc, Slovenian experts within EULEX’s Advisory Unit for Police and Border Matters in Strengthening Division, delivered the presentation at the KP Headquarters in Pristina. The AMOK presentations will also be delivered to senior KP staff in all eight regions within Kosovo.
One of the main messages of the presentation is that the AMOK methods require active engagement with institutions which can quickly identify, prevent and limit the scope of any such attack. The police cooperation with community is another key element of this new approach to combat such incidents and reduce the risk to members of the public.
EULEX Strengthening Division continues to support KP in their endeavours to provide outstanding service to citizens of Kosovo.
