Today, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Hajredin Kuçi and the Head of EULEX Mission, Mr. Yves de Kermabon, the Joint Rule of Law Coordination Board held its regular meeting. Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi participated as well and did the introductory remarks, stressing the determination of the Kosovo government to combat corruption and organized crime.
Then Head of EULEX Mission, Mr. Yves de Kermabon, in his speech, highly appreciated the engagement of Kosovo institutions, and especially that of the Prime Minister related to the attention attached to the rule of law by the Government.
De Kermabon stated that during summer there were some hot issues and overcoming them was not easy at all, this required from all to learn from the past and look into opportunities for full improvement and coordination.
“We need to continue with improving of the rule of law in Kosovo by respecting the key principles, giving priority to local ownership, having accountability and by exercising our executive mandate if necessary. Alone we cannot achieve anything, but together we can achieve everything. This was the message that I heard from Kosovo authorities and from the Prime Minister and I concur with this. Therefore, let us move forward together”, said de Kermabon.
He expressed the commitment of EULEX to support the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and ministers in creating a good rule of law environment which is a basis of any democracy in the world.
The Joint Rule of Law Coordination Board then continued with its agenda.
Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Zenun Pajaziti and the Head of EULEX Police Component, Mr. Rainer Kuehn informed the Board about the two working mandates for two Deputy-Director General’s of Kosovo Police. They also reported to the Board regarding the ongoing restructuring activities within the Kosovo Police. The Board supported these joint activities aiming at building a police structure in accordance with European standards, and which will improve its efficiency.
The Board discussed the information about the work of the District Court in Mitrovica and has established that the engagements towards the functionalizing of this court are going in the right way. Currently, work is ongoing for the completion of a team of Kosovo Albanian and Kosovo Serbian judges and prosecutors, which will function in coordination with their EULEX colleagues.
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi and the Head of EULEX Mission de Kermabon informed that in the future the Joint Rule of Law Coordination Board will be restructured for the purpose of becoming more successful and efficient.
